The Black Tigers Comic Book

The Black Tigers is a 26-issue comic book series produced by the March Project of the National Defense Force of Ethiopia (NDFE), an initiative that aims to encourage behaviour change among the armed forces in Ethiopia in order to prevent the transmission of HIV.

The comic uses drama, humour, and tragedy to highlight how HIV and AIDS affects Ethiopian servicemen. The series, written in Amharic, follows four servicemen as they confront difficult issues and decisions related to HIV. The story takes place in the fictional Black Tigers' battalion camp in a small town, Enticho, located three kilometers from Addis Ababa. It follows the daily lives of a private, a corporal, a sergeant, and a captain at the camp and with their families at home. During the course of the series, the four main characters gradually change their risky behaviours, thereby, according to the publishers, helping readers to analyse their own behaviours and adopt safer practices to prevent HIV.
