Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Engaging Communities in Youth Reproductive Health and HIV Projects

SummaryText
This guide aims to provide easy-to-follow guidelines for carrying out a participatory assessment with young and adult community members, and to outline how these tools and methods can be applied throughout the project cycle. It discusses how to conduct participatory assessments with youth and community members for improved youth reproductive health (RH) and HIV prevention, drawing on YouthNet's experience in Namibia, Tanzania, and Ethiopia with youth-led projects using these tools. The sections review YouthNet's approach to participation, guidelines for training community participants, and suggestions for adapting the methods and tools. Users may adapt and adjust this resource to suit their different needs and objectives.

YouthNet is a global programme of Family Health International to improve reproductive health and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among people 10 to 24 years old. Supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development, YouthNet conducts research, disseminates information, improves services, and strengthens policies and programmes related to the reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention needs and rights of young people around the world.
