Fighting Ebola: A Grand Challenge for Development

In the first phase of the Fighting Ebola Grand Challenge, innovators, scientists, experts, and others from a wide-range of disciplines were invited to offer their ideas and research around solutions to help stop Ebola. Ideas range from "quickly developing better protective gear for health care workers treating Ebola patients, to boosting disease tracking and monitoring systems to promoting care seeking." The online platform is designed to generate actionable solutions and help facilitate dialogue around ideas. The initiative also includes a competition where grants and partnerships are awarded to winning ideas.
Following the research and ideas phase, people can continue to review and comment on the contributions in order to refine the ideas. Some of the best collaborative ideas can be viewed under the highlights section. To encourage ongoing dialogue and collaboration, there is also an impact and implementation section to share stories on how ideas have been put into action, or to connect with others around resources and cooperation. As a way of encouraging people to take their ideas forward, the web portal also offers information around pathway options for sources of funding.
