Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

HIV/AIDS Community Response Database - Global

The Pendulum Project and the Children's AIDS Fund (CAF) have launched an online database of programmes serving children affected by HIV/AIDS around the world. Database listings include grassroots programmes throughout the world that provide care and support to children affected, infected, and orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The new global online database is designed to:
  • Increase attention to the needs of HIV-impacted children
  • Highlight successful grassroots responses to children's needs that are already underway
  • Link organisations and facilitate networking and collaboration
  • Connect grassroots programmes with potential donors who can provide financial, in-kind, and technical support.
Main Communication Strategies
Visitors to the Community Response Database may enter an organisation's name to find a specific group, or leave the search box blank to access a list of all records. Searches may also be conducted based on country name or type of activity.

Listings include a brief programme description, contact information, activity location, services offered, and areas of potential support.

Included in the database are community-based programmes, government agencies, NGOs, youth groups, health workers, associations of people living with HIV/AIDS, and individuals. As of this writing, there are approximately 50 entries in the database.
