Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Images to Stop Tuberculosis Photo Award

The Stop TB Partnership, located in Switzerland, seeks to produce a comprehensive body of photographic work on tuberculosis (TB) to be used for advocacy purposes. Photographers are invited to submit their work for consideration.

The winner of the award will receive US$5000 and an additional US$5000 to be used as travel expenses to produce a series of photographs on TB in a country/region designated by Stop TB partnership. The winner will be notified by September 15 2011. The name of the winner will be announced through the Images to Stop Tuberculosis website on October 26 2011.

The winner will be required to produce a photo reportage [a technique of documentary film or photo journalism that tells a story entirely through pictures - The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language] in line with an assignment set up by the Stop TB Partnership. These photographs must be submitted by February 28 2012, and will be made public on March 24 2012, World Tuberculosis Day

Cropped photos are eligible. Digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos are not accepted. Entrants must hold all rights to their photograph. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible. Captions for all photos in the portfolio may be submitted with your entry and appropriately cross referenced with the photos. Admitted formats - JPEG's only (500 KB compressed file is maximum for each photo.) Not admitted formats - Tiff, Raw videotapes, or interactive CDs, or slide shows (.pps, .ppt, .mov, .mpg) Submissions not meeting these requirements will not be considered. Photos and CDs will not be returned.

A completed entry form including captions for submitted photos, 10-15 photos for consideration labelled with name and numbered for cross referencing with captions. Please send a written confirmation by email to Nuttalls@who.int that photos have been sent.
