Malaria Control in the Framework of Primary Health Care - Mali, Mauritania, Uganda, Viet Nam
The Malaria Control in the Framework of Primary Health Care project was initiated in 1992 at the Amsterdam conference where endemic countries convened to discuss malaria control on a global scale and where the new malaria control strategy was inaugurated.
Communication Strategies
The main strategy used in this programme was to integrate malaria control into district health care systems. Activities for interventions include a standard set of training programs, treatment protocols, quality assurance systems for peripheral laboratories, information material for educational campaigns, surveillance instruments and approaches to bed net impregnation
Development Issues
Malaria control, health care systems
Key Points
Results of the programme indicate that a set of standardised interventions against malaria can be established within a time span of 2-5 years while maintaining a high degree of flexibility for adapting the elements of malaria control to the local needs.
