Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

PRODECA - Central America

PRODECA is DANIDA's human rights programme in Central America and supports freedom of speech and investigative journalism while aiming to ensure the creation of conditions where the media can help reflect the political situation in the country.
Communication Strategies

PRODECA acts as a tool for educating the population as well as creating opportunities for the media to scrutinize the government and other bodies of power, making corruption and abuse of power known to the public, and supporting several different newspaper supplements in El Salvador that put a critical focus on the country's development strategy.
Development Issues

Rights, media development, political development.
Key Points

The programme uses three main approaches towards development of the media, including: strengthening the instruction of students, encouraging media owners to give students opportunities for practice, and supporting processes that will create better connections and a better flow of news between rural and urban areas.
