Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Rural Development Network

Rural Development Network (RDN) is an indeginous NGO established in the Republic of Uganda on the 4th February 2000. The Organisation intends to carry out activities in the fields of agricultural transformation, enviroment protection, primary health care, promotion of education and training in technical skills for sustainable developmentand empowerment of the marginalised groups in society like women, children and the disabled.
Communication Strategies

The Organisation has adopted the intergrated rural development approach in a strategy to develop the rural areas through gradual geographical targeting of the most affected areas of Iganga District, in the Eastern region of Uganda. They adopted the above approach because it encompasses the use of all the available resources in the best or optimal way to alleviate the economical, social and cultural developments of the people.

1. Improving crop production in rural areas.

2. AIDs control in rural areas.

3. Primary health care.
