Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

ThinkAction Approach

ThinkAction is a member of the ThinkPlace Global Association and works with leaders in an effort to create vibrant communities, strong economies, sustainable environments, and trusted institutions. They do this through:

  • Define it - Seek to understand the ecosystem around the behaviour change, asking: What are the influences? What are the social, cultural, functional and economic drivers at an individual, house hold community level? The goal here is to establish a shared vision of the change and engage participants for collaboration.
  • Make it - Focus on a specific opportunity area to develop and test, then prototyping it in the context of interest and with the people whose behaviour we are seeking to change.
  • Apply it - Evaluate and prioritise solutions from design to inform a strategy for pilot that is coordinated with other programmes of work, and then pilot the solution in the ecosystem using an action learning approach. The system learns from the intervention.
  • Measure it - Co-create the elements of an evaluation framework - vision, targets, indicators, impact - as the solution is developed.
