What is Your City Like - Argentina
Educating Cities Latin America, in the frame of its programme "My City and the World", invites children and youth to participate as artists in a project to promote democracy and citizen involvement at the local level. The initiative is designed to encourage all citizens to get to know the city in which they live through the development of challenging, motivating experiences for children and young people at schools and other institutions. Specific objectives include:
Children younger than 12 years are encouraged to use a drawing to tell their peers around the world about what their homes are like; children older than 12 may submit a drawing and/or story. Drawings and stories will be published, as space allows, on The International Association of Educating Cities site; participants will also receive a PowerPoint presentation. Prospective participants may send drawings and/or stories by mail or in a digital format prior to June 16 2003. The drawings must be in A4 size (21 cm x 29.7cm) and can use any technique. The stories must not exceed 300 words. Participants are encouraged to send a photograph to be published on the website.
- To strengthen appreciation of Agrentinian culture, as well as the knowledge and appreciation of other cultures and traditions.
- To encourage the recognition of local problems, as well as to identify their connection with global problems.
- To foster a network of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between people through cultural interchange.
- To create a space for the sharing of traditions and cultures of cities from the point of view of children and youth.
- To establish dialogue among participants about their work so that they can compare the elements they seem to have in common, as well as the differences.
- To foster cooperative project exchange between participants.

Development Issues
Children, Youth, Urbanisation.
Key Points
Organisers urge that the city is not only a place to be inhabited, but also the way a society is organised, its economy is defined, its customs, different ways of life, etc. Thus, it is possible to consider the city as educating, where urban landscape and architecture are real sources of knowledge. In the past few years, they point out, globalisation of the economy and acceleration of urbanisation have increased the ethnic and cultural plurality in cities, through national and international migration processes, which lead to populations mixing and different ways of life in urban spaces. Thus, they believe that it is necessary for children and young people rediscover the idea of the city.
