Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Keep the Promise: A Teaching Resource on HIV and AIDS

This resource, written for teachers and group leaders of 11 to 16 year olds, gives curricular support materials for classes on HIV and AIDS designed to motivate students to take action to fight the pandemic. Classroom activities are divided into two lessons that include finding out students' perceptions and knowledge on AIDS, helping them understand the stories of children affected by AIDS, supporting them in choosing how to get out a unified message on AIDS, and supporting their letter writing campaign.

There are articles on what letter writing has achieved, sample letters, and strategies about addressing the issues in a letter. The final chapters include teacher strategies to extend the reach of the letter writing campaign and to further engage classrooms on the topic. There is a chapter for classrooms of Christian religions dealing with issues of discrimination.
