Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Africa Stop Ebola - Song and Video

A collective of African musicians have come together to record a song to help raise awareness about Ebola in Africa. This song, entitled "Africa Stop Ebola", is a message to citizens about what they can do to help stop the spread of Ebola in Africa. The lyrics include messages of caution and comfort, warning people not to touch the bodies of the sick or deceased, and encouraging people to trust doctors, wash their hands, and take proactive steps if they feel the symptoms of Ebola.
Artists participating in the song include singers Tiken Jah Fakoly, Amadou & Mariam, Salif Keita, Oumou Sangare, Kandia Kora, Mory Kante, Sia Tolno, Barbara Kanam; rappers Didier Awadi, Marcus (from the band Banlieuz'Arts) and Mokobe; as well as musicians Sékou Kouyaté (electric guitar, bass, electric kora) et Ludovic N'Holle (drums).
The song is performed in French and vernacular languages widely spoken across the region to ensure that the message is understood regardless of the level of literacy and education of the population.
The song will be distributed to radio stations across Africa with support from the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), and the video will be shared with broadcasters in Europe and across Africa.
