Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
The Ebola Resources for Health Workers online resource centre is a web portal that "supports organisations and agencies that aid frontline health workers as they grapple with the ongoing Ebola crisis." According to Intrahealth, who are developing the resource centre, "the Ebola crisis has affected some of the most vulnerable areas of the world, and frontline health workers are struggling to keep pace with the outbreak. These health workers need clear, simple, reliable information on how to protect themselves, detect the disease, and respond to their communities’ needs."
The resource centre is designed to meet this need as it collects information, tools, and approaches gathered from contributing members to share with health care workers, often for delivery via mobile devices and printable materials. Information on the site can be searched by subject areas, resource type (brochure, factsheet, poster, etc.), tools, language, and country. The centre provides a space to "connect with contributing members to engage in the science, protocols of practice, methods of training, and other ways organisations can respond. The materials and approaches contained in these pages are meant to be useful right away as well as adaptable to local considerations of language, culture, and health system structure."
The Resources Centre is also offering a series of webinars featuring panelists speaking on issues such as information needs, health system support, and community mobilisation. These are recorded and housed on the website along with related materials.
In addition, the site offers an online community forum where people can seek and find information about Ebola and engage with others, asking questions, sharing information, and identifying needs. People can also interact through the Ebola Resources for Health Workers facebook page.
The centre is the product of a collaboration between IntraHealth International and mPowering Frontline Health Workers.
