Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Everbridge H1N1 Communication Kit

SummaryText

This H1N1 communication kit poses the question: "How will your organization meet the communication challenges created by multiple waves of infection and the accompanying lulls during a multi-month flu pandemic?" Private incident notification system provider Everbridge Aware published this communication kit to pose questions to organisations and point to organisational needs during a pandemic on the premise that a pandemic will require sustained communication across an organisation among staff, management, external stakeholders, and the surrounding community.

The document outlines organisational needs and strategies on the following topics: Pandemic Response and Management; Continuity of Operations; Prevention and Protection; and Community Support. Components include:

  • H1N1 Sample Messages - Includes daily briefing, incident command team conference call, response team activation and management, remote roll-calling and absenteeism management, and volunteer coordination.
  • Pandemic Communication Readiness Self-Audit Tool - An Ms Excel-based self-audit tool to assess organisational pandemic readiness and pinpoint communication gaps.
  • Everbridge Aware for H1N1 Overview - Details practical applications of an incident notification system for an H1N1 flu pandemic.
