Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

From Eldis, insights is a thematic overview of recent policy-relevant research findings on international development. Published 6 times per year, it aims to make research accessible to non-academics and non-native English speakers, especially those in developing countries.

Each issue brings a balanced view on a topic by working closely with a Guest Editor who drafts the issue and an Academic Advisor who acts as an overall referee. For example, one past issue focused on "Getting Research into Policy and Practice: Experiences from Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV and AIDS". This issue covers topics such as communicating HIV trial results in South Africa and building ownership of policy-relevant research in Ghana. To cite another example, a 2012 issue of insights shares research related to: "Innovative Approaches to Gender and Food Security Changing Attitudes, Changing Behaviours".

insights is distributed free of charge - either via email or print - to policymakers and practitioners worldwide. Each issue goes out to over 20,000 subscribers - mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
