Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Public Health Approach for Scaling Up Antiretroviral Treatment (Toolkit)

SummaryText
This online resource presents a public health approach to "scaling up access to antiretroviral  (ARV) treatment in resource-limited settings." The publishers believe that even in areas with poor resources, successful programmes can not only produce good clinical outcomes, but can reduce stigma and discrimination. The aims of this toolkit are stated as:
  1. To address issues arising from planning and implementing ARV treatment programmes
    in resource-limited settings; and
  2. To provide user-friendly technical guidance on planning and implementing ARV treatment programmes in resource-limited settings.
The Toolkit contains links to HIV/AIDS treatment resources and Integrated Modelling Approach (IMAI) information and courses.

The Toolkit is divided into 5 sections:
  • IMAI Strategy
  • Patient Self Management and Community Support
  • Simplified Guidelines and Training Materials for Primary Care Facilities
  • Referral Care and Clinical Mentoring
  • District Management & Supervision
