Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Youth Network Television ( YNTV ) - Global

Youth Network Television links youth worldwide to talk face to face about critical issues.
Communication Strategies

Using video networking technology, YNTV breaks through physical, cultural and political barriers, helping shape a world where people better understand each other, and can work together creatively.
Development Issues

Peace.
Key Points

In the YNTV network, youth are part of the solution, not just part of the problem. Their first programme linked youth in Cape Town with youth in Munich, using formal satellite technology for a studio to studio discussion. Produced with the German network ARD, and broadcast live on 17 channels across Europe, this opening show jumped into the deep end - taking on the issue of racism. In places where a phone line is more accessible than a satellite, YNTV links through multiple digital phone lines. Over the next 5 years, YNTV will link youth in more than 40 countries.
