Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
The Avian and Pandemic Influenza Strategic Communications Action Planner (ASAP) is a toolkit for programme officers engaged in strategic communications on Avian and Pandemic Influenza (A&PI). The overall goal of the toolkit is to standardise communication responses to avian flu across different organisations and regions around the world. The toolkit will be a web-based, interactive, easy-to-use resource providing access to websites, documents and emergency-preparedness models for developing A&PI communication programmes and products.

The initiative is being organised by a partnership of leading international organisations including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Bank.

The toolkit will be developed by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs.
