After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SADC Regional Centre of Communication for Development - Zimbabwe

The SADC Regional Centre of Communication for Development, located in Harare, Zimbabwe, offers training in Communication for Development and provides advice and assistance to government and NGO client development programmes and projects within and outside the SADC Region.
Communication Strategies

The Centre has developed a methodology - Participatory Rural Communication Appraisal or PRCA - which is a truly participatory process whereby the concerned community is involved as an equal partner with the project formulation team in deciding what activities they will implement, how they will implement them, what communication channels will be used, what assistance they expect to receive from the project and what responsibilities they will assume to make the project work and be sustainable.
Development Issues

Any issue determined by concerned communities in Zimbabwe.

A manual on the PRCA process called "Starting with the People" has been published. It has also been documented on the FAO web page.
