Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

British Medical Association (BMA) Information Fund

The British Medical Association (BMA)'s International Department invites applications from organisations in developing countries seeking health information from Teaching Aids at Low Cost (TALC). The fund donates educational materials, such as books and DVDs, from the materials made available by TALC. Applications are sought from health care institutions, health non-governmental organisations (NGOs), medical school libraries, and other related organisations.

Please note that the maximum award per application is UK£2000. The BMA is unable to consider requests from individuals.

Application Info

Click here for more information and access to application forms and a booklist from which to select materials (MS Word format).

Completed application forms and booklists should be sent to the BMA either:

  1. by email to internationalinfo@bma.org.uk
  2. by post to British Medical Association, BMA House, Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9JP, United Kingdom
  3. by fax: 44 (0) 207 383 6644

Application forms must include contact details, including phone numbers, and reasons why donations are sought. Book lists that strongly reflect an organisation's aims will be preferentially reviewed. The BMA cannot accept any submissions received after 5:00pm UK time on the deadline date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
