Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Vietnam's Commitment To Bird Flu Fight Applauded

Summary

According to this article, health experts are praising Vietnam as an important leader in the regional and global fight against avian influenza. Health experts commended Vietnam’s commitment to the fight against the virus at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) health seminar in Hanoi in May 2007.

According to Michael Iademarco, Health Attaché of the United States Embassy in Vietnam, an important factor in Vietnam’s strong leadership in the fight against bird flu is the open and transparent way that the country has shared information and virus samples. According to Iademarco, this cooperative and open approach has successfully kept the number of avian flu outbreaks to a minimum.

Vietnam was also applauded for its comprehensive reporting system, which includes early detection and response, vaccination, a bird flu hotline and an online reporting system to help with pathogenic influenza information management.
