Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
The Solutions Site for Kids was created by Horizon International to benefit young people by providing tools, puzzles, games, and contests to help young people learn about the important work presented in the main Solutions Site. The Solutions Site for Kids includes some case studies from the main page, which have been adapted to be used by students and teachers. In addition, this site is a place to learn about solutions around the world that have been discovered by youth. Youth are invited to submit solutions as well.

The four main categories are those of the main site. An example of a case study under the population category on the Kids site is: "Have a Baby? I Think I'll Think It Over", which is about the "Baby Think It Over" infant simulator, a life-like, life-size baby doll with realistic computerised responses, which allows teens to experience some of the demands of infant care. It is being used by schools and other organisations to help adolescents appreciate the responsibilities involved with parenthood.

The site includes a "Learn and Do" section of games, a contest section, discussion and stories forums, a search section, and the four case studies categories, as well as "Hot New", "For Educators', Viewpoint", and "Feature Story".

This site is one of several Horizon International Web pages. The Horizon Solutions Site (see the related summary below), a collaborative programme with the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), Horizon's colleagues at Harvard University and Yale University, and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, presents answers to problems in environment, health, population and development, in peer-reviewed case studies, articles, and exhibits.

The Horizon Television Programs site (see the related summary below) features links to programmes of the series "One Second Before Sunrise", covering the environment; health; and development, finding means to meet economic needs with least harm to our planet and advancing technological innovations for the betterment of the planet.

In addition, Horizon is working to promote protection of coral reefs through the Magic Porthole project, a coral reef project that provides multimedia and multifaceted experiences, while providing education about the coral reef, its inhabitants, and the water environment.
