Health action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The organisation Puntos de Encuentro compiled this multi-media library on the issue of sexual abuse because "sexual abuse is one of the worst human rights violations committed against women and children, a type of aggression against the integrity of their bodies, minds and spirits. As an information centre, we believe that citizens should have access to reliable information in order to address this problem."

The multi-media library is a compilation of 67 documents in audio, video, and text, including theoretical and methodological tools, sites of interest, directors, and action guides, all which may be useful when addressing the issue of sexual abuse. Documents include titles such as:

  • Abusadores Sexuales: ¿Rehabilitamiento o castration? ("Sexual Abusers: Rehabilitation or Castration?");
  • Abuso Sexual en Niñez con Discapacidad ("Sexual Abuse in Children with Disabilities"); and
  • Sonriendo Nuevamente a la Vida. Metodologia Grupal Para Adolescentes… ("Smiling at Life Again. Group Therapy for Adolescents").

Videos include shorts such as Mi Cuerpo es mio ("My Body Belongs to Me"), and Tu Palabra Contra la Mia ("Your Word Against Mine"). In the audio section, there are vignettes and radio programmes such as Donde Jugarán las niñas ("Where will the girls play?"), produced by Sexto Sentido Radio. Finally, there are links to other information sources and a bibliography of materials available at the Puntos Documentation Centre.

"Puntos de Encuentro para la transformation de la vida cotidiana" (Gathering Points for Transforming Daily Lives) is a Nicaraguan feminist organisation that works with young and adult women, developing their capacities to exercise their rights and autonomy in daily life. Puntos uses communication media, training, and alliance processes to promote and defend gender and generational equality, respect for diversity, rejection of discrimination and violence, and relations based on mutual respect.
